Show Story:

Definitely Maybe! Though they're Man City fans, the Oasis boys might have titled an album in dedication of Tottenham's current campaign.

When they visited Arsenal on 26 February they were seven points ahead of the Gunners. A Champions League place looked certain. Then the rot set in. Just six points have been gathered from a possible 27 since then and only Wolves have picked up fewer.

It would be a great shame if they miss out. But the facts are stark. By the time they kick off they could be nine points behind Arsenal. Maybe they could still qualify in fourth. But they're depending on Newcastle and Chelsea to implode - just as they have themselves.

The bounce in their step has gone. The fine grace of their autumn movement has been replaced by a stumbling gait. Gareth Bale and Luka Modric look wearied. Where goals came fluently, they've now dried up. Just eight have been scored in this nine-game slump.

The Harry Redknapp/England speculation has perhaps eroded the club's united aim. It certainly hasn't helped. But whatever the reasons, Spurs can't dwell on them. They must win this game at all costs and then it'll be game on again, especially with Chelsea still to meet Newcastle.

They're looking for a sixth win in a row over a Blackburn side whose escape hopes briefly flickered last month only to be seemingly snuffed out in their run of five defeats in a row.

If Yakubu can score, if Hoillett's pace can trouble a patched up Spurs defence, if Paul Robinson can keep a fourth clean sheet of the season, if they can get a point and then beat Wigan at home, then Blackburn might survive.

But they've conceded 41 away goals this season. Only seven clubs in the entire Football League have shipped more on their travels. They need a miracle.

Surely Tottenham will rediscover their winning ways. Otherwise another Oasis sad song lyric might haunt them for a long, long time: "We're throwing it all away at the end of the day"

St Mirren have a full squad to choose from ahead of Sunday's Scottish Premier League visit of Hibernian.

Left-back Jeroen Tesselaar returns for the Paisley side after serving a suspension last week and David Barron is back from injury.

Garry O'Connor may recover from a foot injury in time to face St Mirren while Tom Soares is available again.

Winger Danny Galbraith and goalkeeper Graham Stack remain out due to groin and thigh injuries respectively.

"Last week they gained a point back on us, but I don't think that showed in our performance against Kilmarnock.

What a week it's been for Chelsea and they can look forward to a heroes reception on their return to Stamford Bridge following Tuesday's incredible game in Barcelona. However, it's not going to be all smiles and handshakes between the two teams when they meet face-to-face ahead of kick off.

It's the first league meeting since John Terry was charged with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during the match between the sides at Loftus Road last October, so the pre-match handshake was set to take centre stage and dominate the headlines.

That's not going to happen now following the Premier League's decision to cancel the ritual for this one game because of the legal situation involving the two players. It also avoids the potential of the whole thing descending into farce or acrimony before a ball is even kicked.

QPR badly need the points as they strive to avoid relegation but, as we've all seen, Chelsea are a different proposition now compared with just a few weeks ago in the latter stages of Andre Villas-Boas's short reign.

They've only lost one match of the 15 played since Roberto di Matteo took over on a caretaker basis, with 10 wins and four draws. The highlight of course is reaching the Champions League final, where they'll play Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena on the 19 May, but they might have to win it to be in next season's competition.

Chelsea currently sit in sixth position in the table, four points behind fourth-placed Newcastle with four games to play, including a home match against the Geordies. If Chelsea were to finish as Champions League winners but outside the top four, then the fourth-placed team would have to enter the Europa League instead.

This will be Chelsea's eighth London derby in the league this season and they haven't managed to win any of the previous seven. QPR in contrast, have won three of the seven derby matches they've played so far, but all the wins have come at home.

Their away record over the whole season isn't good at all with a division-low 11 points collected on the road. Mark Hughes's team have alternated between home wins and away defeats in their last eight games, with victories over Liverpool, Arsenal, Swansea and Spurs hoisting them above the relegation zone going into the weekend.

A glance at the table just about sums up the contrasting emotions of these two clubs in this Premier League season. Who would have thought when the fixtures were produced that Norwich would trail Liverpool by just three points going into this match? Whilst 2012 may yet be remembered for two successes in cup competitions, only bottom club Wolves have picked up fewer top-flight points than Liverpool since the turn of the year - it's 12 from a possible 45 for the Reds. In fact, unless they pick up eight points from their last four games they will be left with their lowest ever tally in the Premier League.

This fixture is one of many reminders of a frustrating season. Back in October they hit the woodwork twice and produced a string of fine saves from John Ruddy as Norwich became one of 12 clubs to leave Anfield with at least a point. Remarkably, the Reds have recorded two more wins away from Anfield than at home. Now they have two more matches to play before their Wembley meeting with Chelsea to try to improve things slightly. Last season they finished 10 points off the top four - the current gap is 16 points.

Norwich will relish the visit of Liverpool in their penultimate home game of the campaign, and will try to beat them on home turf for the first time in 19 years since the memorable days under Mike Walker. They've lost only two of their last eight at Carrow Road and those defeats were against both Manchester clubs. Paul Lambert would dearly love another landmark day in an incredible season, and will hope to put one over Dalglish, who he briefly played under at Celtic.

"We didn't plan to keep him on for 90 minutes, but the way he worked and played, and the way the game was going, we felt he had to stay on. "He finished the game very strongly, which is credit to him and the physios, because he looked very fit. "He's a very big player for us and we have missed him greatly this season. "He did very well last season on loan from Blackburn and ironically this season, when he's been our player, he has had a succession of injuries. "He'll be 21 in May, so he is still very, very young. He has great potential and will be a big player for us."

"The two teams threatened with relegation are our next two opponents so we have a major say what happens there so we have to be fair to both and play flat out in both games.

Alan Pardew will be like the gleeful child who wins the golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory if he can take Newcastle into the Champions League.

Last season, Wigan picked up 11 points from a possible final 18 to stay up. This season it is 12 from the last 18! Better than that, their current run of 19 points from 12 games is top-six form. Goals are still hard to come by, but a more resolute and consistent defensive line-up has let in just 12 goals in a dozen league games.

With winnable matches against Blackburn and Wolves to come, even a point would be a giant step to safety. It was unthinkable six weeks ago.

Newcastle's thrilling run of six wins in a row has taken them to the brink of history and a return to the Champions League for the first time in nine years. Another victory would equal the club's Premier League record of seven on the bounce. Papiss Cisse is striving to become the first player to score in seven successive top-flight games since Emmanuel Adebayor in February 2008. Alan Shearer did score in seven consecutive appearances for Newcastle in 1996, but he missed three matches through injury in that run.

With Chelsea and Everton to come away and a visit from Manchester City sandwiched between, Newcastle's run-in is a minefield. They must win this one.

Confidence is surging through them. The forwards are full of goals, and Yohan Cabaye has been one of the signings of the season. Defensively they've been so tight as well. Its 398 minutes since they last conceded.

Wouldn't it be just like football for Ryan Taylor to pop up with a goal? He scored four for Wigan against Newcastle, including two famous thunderbolt winners. It would be a sweet and sour for him though. A goal could take the Toon to the Promised Land and send his old club to their doom.

For weeks Aston Villa have been on the fringe of the relegation issue, now they are in the thick of it.

Tuesday's crushing home defeat by fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers leaves them just three points above the relegation zone. Worryingly, while Bolton, Wigan, QPR and Blackburn have discovered some fighting spirits to win games and pick up points, Villa have barely raised a whimper.

Their record is desperate: one win in 13 games, four defeats in the last seven. With two from five clubs to join Wolves in the Championship next season, Villa are the only team without any momentum.

Alex McLeish was always an unpopular choice as manager given his Birmingham City connections but now the fans worst fears seem close to being realised as the beleaguered boss struggles to inspire a side depleted by injuries and illness against a backdrop of increasing hostility from the stands. He was given a vote of confidence by the board of directors this week but, in a poll done by the Birmingham Mail, 76% of supporters wanted him sacked.

It's a sorry mess and it's difficult to see many positives right now but I wonder if a derby away from home MIGHT be just what's needed. Local pride should ensure total support from their fans and surely the players can rise themselves to the passion of the occasion? Where better to rediscover your Premier League quality than on your neighbour's turf?

Historically, Villa have done well at The Hawthorns with just one defeat there since 1985, although they do find West Brom in good nick. Last Sunday's win at Liverpool made it three wins in four, keeping a third clean sheet along the way. In a crowded mid-table Albion's aim is a top-10 finish, which would be their best since 1981.

Whatever, West Brom will end the season as top dogs in the West Midlands, with Villa anxious not to exit the Premier League with Wolves and truly desperate not to pass Birmingham City heading in the opposite direction.

Looking at the fixtures this weekend you would be forgiven for thinking that there was nothing at stake for Swansea and Wolves and that it will be a meaningless end-of-season encounter. The Swans are safely in mid-table after a stunning debut season in the Premier League, while Wolves' relegation was confirmed last week.

But pride means that both clubs will be up for this game as they are keen to finish the season strongly, for very different reasons.

Swansea have surpassed all expectations this season, but Brendan Rodgers will not let his team ease up. They sit comfortably in 12th place, just three points below Liverpool, and it would be a phenomenal achievement if they not only secure a top-half finish but also go above the Reds.

Of course, success for Swansea is a double-edged sword: the better they do, the more speculation will rage on the future of Rodgers. He has already been linked with Tottenham should Harry Redknapp leave for England.

As for Wolves, manager Terry Connor's future is up in the air for vastly different reasons. He will not want to end the campaign without winning a single game in charge, having managed just two draws in 10 games since taking over from Mick McCarthy.

Wolves' last win came at QPR back on 4 February, just nine days before McCarthy was sacked following the 5-1 defeat at home by West Brom.

We will never know what would have happened to Wolves if they had not dismissed McCarthy but their fate is sealed and the board will already be planning for the future. Whether Connor figures in that remains to be seen.

Four goals in nine matches has seen them exit the Premier League with barely a whimper and their already irate fans need a lift; it's time for their players to restore some pride.

Martin O'Neill's team has failed to score in their last four games, and with a hat-trick of blanks at home behind them, the Stadium of Light crowd will be desperate to cheer a red and white goal again.

There's still too much to do for Sunderland's season to peter out. They've still got the incentive of getting four points from their last three games to beat last season's total, and have a big part to play in events at the top and bottom of the league.

The only game of their last six that the Black Cats scored in was their 3-3 draw at Manchester City a month ago. City might still need to hope for a similar effort (and result) when Manchester United visit Wearside on the final day.

Before all that, Bolton. A team who boosted hopes of beating the drop in 60 dramatic seconds at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

From a gutsy 'do it for Muamba' display to beat Blackburn followed by an abject capitulation at home to Fulham, I've seen both sides of Wanderers in recent weeks and wouldn't like to guess what's going to happen next!

There's no doubt, though, that they'll be in great shape to stay up IF they can win this one. It would be a fifth win from their last eight league games and would add hugely to momentum going into an all-important game in hand against Spurs next Wednesday.

The start Owen Coyle's team made start to the season was as awful as this week's weather. Of eight previous sides who lost nine of their first 12 Premier League games, only Southampton in 2002 stayed up. It's in Bolton's own hands to do the same.

Now just imagine how nervous that fourth-placed team is going to be feeling as Chelsea run out in the Allianz Arena for the Champions League final, six days after the last Premier League games have been played.

That team, whoever it may be, will know that if Chelsea should win that solitary game against Bayern Munich, then the team who has slogged and sweated over 38 matches to finish fourth will be out of the Champions League and into the Europa League.

This season, finishing fourth may guarantee you nothing except a week of sleepless nights and a temporary membership of the Bayern Munich supporters club. That's why Arsenal cannot allow themselves to make their almost customary slip-up at Stoke.

The Gunners have visited the Britannia Stadium four times and come home beaten on three occasions. Avoiding a repeat is imperative.

Stoke have dealt with a hugely demanding season pretty well. Only Chelsea have played more than their tally of 52 matches and counting. Despite the early start (on 28 July) and some exhausting away trips to some of the most remote outposts of European football (Kiev, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Gillingham) they are only four points shy of their points tally from last season with three games to play, and may yet better their highest top-flight finish since 1975, which is 11th.

The stoically merited draw not only extended their unbeaten run to five games but it also increased the growing admiration for Moyes, whose ability to assemble consistently challenging teams on limited resources continue to mark him out as one of the Premier League's finest bosses.

Now into his 11th year in charge, he'll be aiming for his eighth top-eight finish, with the added incentive of trying to end the campaign above Liverpool in the table for the first time since 2005.

In their current form it would be a major surprise if they were to begin their final four-match quest with a defeat, especially when considering that no Everton side has ever lost a league game to Fulham at home. They've not even given up a single point to the Cottagers since 1959!

Fulham, though, have been on a good run themselves recently. Unbeaten in their last four games, they could climb above their hosts by recording that historic first win in more than sixty years of trying.

The odds will certainly be stacked against them, as Martin Jol's side have the third worst away record in the division, with just three wins all season and a paltry 11 goals scored.
