Bolton's best league form of the season is coinciding with Arsenal's worst. True, the Gunners did lose four of six matches between August and October but there were arguably mitigating circumstances as the Gunners' hastily-recruited summer signings familiarised themselves with their new surroundings.

Arsenal ended 2011 on 36 points and successive defeats to Fulham, Swansea and Manchester United has left them stuck on that points tally throughout January. Coupled with Chelsea's mini-revival, it has threatened their 15-year monopoly on a top-four place.

The Gunners' FA Cup comeback win at home to Aston Villa at the weekend may have calmed the nerves but the natives remain restless, especially with neighbours Tottenham now 10 points clear and looking increasingly likely to finish above Arsenal for the first time since Arsene Wenger took charge. Defeat at the Reebok would also see Arsenal lose four straight league matches for the first time under the Frenchman.

Bolton, unlike Arsenal, have been revitalised since the turn of the year with four wins from six matches in all competitions; their only defeat came at Manchester United. Wanderers have remembered how to score, with 11 goals coming in January from a variety of sources.

Manager Owen Coyle must now turn his attention to his defence, which has kept only two clean sheets all season. Gary Cahill's departure to Chelsea is obviously a blow but Coyle believes new signing Tim Ream is more than capable of filling the void.

American Ream, whose debut may be on hold due to work permit issues, was a team-mate of Thierry Henry at the New York Red Bulls for the last two seasons and was reportedly a serious Arsenal target last summer. How ironic it would be if he is the man to plug the Trotters' leaky defence, given that Arsenal have also looked so shaky at the back all season.
