On May 11th 1968 Manchester City clinched the league title at Newcastle United. Will the 44-year wait to lift the trophy again finally end under the shadow of the Gallowgate End? Or will this intriguing run-in take another tortuous twist?
LAWRO'S PREDICTION

"Manchester City will give ultimate respect to Newcastle and will see what they have got in the first half an hour before they start to turn the screw."

City have regained their form just in time. Back to their buccaneering best at Norwich, they were also patient against Manchester United and defensively resilient throughout.

Joe Hart with his 16 clean sheets, Vincent Kompany for his inspirational leadership, David Silva with his Will O' the Wisp artistry, and Yaya Toure for his yomping between box-to-box, are all candidates for the Premier League player of the season.

But having voted for Robin van Persie for Footballer of the Year, my vote for the most decisive factor in City winning the league, should they triumph, will go to Sergio Aguero. His 29 goals have come consistently throughout the season, but his recent spell of five in four games got the club winning again after the season-threatening March slump, when he was significantly missing from the poor displays against Stoke and Sunderland.

“Newcastle can turn the title race on its head once again”

That point gained against the Black Cats from an impossible position might prove to be the title decider in the end. But there's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. Newcastle could ruin everything.

They were ripped apart by Wigan's thrilling intensity last week but then bounced back magnificently at Chelsea with Papiss Cisse equalling the Premier League record of 13 goals in his first 12 games.

They are undefeated in their last nine league home matches and have kept a clean sheet in the last four. The last time they kept five clean sheets in a row at home in the top flight was in 1919.

City are unbeaten in ten league games against Newcastle, but with Cisse's sniper accuracy, Hatem Ben Arfa's trickery, Demba Ba's selfless running and Yohan Cabaye's pin-point service Newcastle can turn the title race on its head once again.
