Preview

And with the other four teams in the Premier League's top five facing each other this weekend, the Blues are aiming to take advantage of their rivals dropping points.

Victory for Andre Villas-Boas' men at Carrow Road in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off would maintain the pressure ahead of leaders Manchester City hosting third-placed Tottenham and defending champions Manchester United heading to Arsenal on Sunday.

Norwich are sitting pretty in ninth place on their top-flight return but face a tough test against a Chelsea side enjoying life away from Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are unbeaten in their last five matches on the road - the best current sequence in the Premier League.

However, the Canaries are full of confidence themselves, having lost just one of their last seven league clashes.

Paul Lambert's side have caught many of their rivals by surprise with a free-flowing attacking philosophy which has reaped an impressive 32 goals in their 21 matches this term.

But they remain fragile at the back and equalled an unwanted Premier League record of going 21 matches into a season without keeping a clean sheet.
Team news

Norwich goalkeeper Declan Rudd is out for two months after injuring his knee in training so third-choice Jed Steer comes into the squad as cover for John Ruddy.

Fullback Marc Tierney is back in training after recovering from a groin injury.

On-loan defender Ritchie De Laet returned to Manchester United in midweek while centre-forward James Vaughan and defender Elliott Ward (both knee) are back in training and continuing to progress.

England defender Gary Cahill could make his Chelsea debut but is unlikely to start at Norwich.

The defender, who finally completed his £7m move from Bolton on Monday, may have to make do with a substitute role as he settles into his new surroundings.

Branislav Ivanovic could earn an immediate recall at right-back after a month out injured and fit-again midfielder Michael Essien is in contention to start after making his comeback from the bench last weekend.

The game comes too soon for fellow midfielder John Obi Mikel (hamstring), while Ivory Coast duo Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are representing their country in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Possible starting XIs:

Norwich: Ruddy, Martin, Whitbread, Ayala, Naughton, Johnson, Crofts, Pilkington, Surman, Hoolahan, Morison.

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Romeu, Ramires, Meireles, Lampard, Mata, Torres.
