Preview

Saturday's crucial clash at the bottom of the table is a must-win for both QPR and Wigan and victory for either could lift them out of the relegation zone.

Mark Hughes picked up his first success as QPR boss with a 1-0 midweek triumph over MK Dons in the FA Cup.

Rangers haven't won any of their last 10 league games - a run which has sucked them into the relegation zone and ultimately cost Neil Warnock his job.

The new boss will surely have to tighten up the defence as QPR haven't kept a clean sheet in the league since defeating Chelsea 1-0 in October.

That game was also their last home win in the league and QPR have taken just one point from the last 15 available in the Premier League at Loftus Road.

QPR's strikers also need to find form as Rangers have failed to score in three of the last four matches against the Latics

Wigan won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier in the season and would welcome three more valuable points when they travel to Loftus Road.

The Latics' last win came at the start of December, beating West Brom 2-0 and they have only picked up three points from the last 18.

However they can take confidence from only conceding one goal against big spending Manchester City on Monday.

QPR have dropped more points from winning positions at home than any other Premier League side (10), while Wigan have recovered the most points from losing positions away from home this season (7).
Team news

QPR skipper Joey Barton is set to return to the starting line-up after a three-match ban.

Danny Gabbidon missed training on Friday and will be assessed ahead of the game on Saturday morning.

Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nedum Onuoha and Taye Taiwo are close to joining QPR from Manchester City and AC Milan, respectively, but won't be signed in time for the game.

Wigan midfielder David Jones is doubtful due to a calf injury.

The bottom club are already without another midfielder in Mohamed Diame, who is on Africa Nations Cup duty with Senegal.

Latics have no other fitness concerns after Albert Crusat made a successful return from a back injury in Monday's loss to Manchester City.

Possible starting XIs:

QPR: Kenny, Hill, Hall, Ferdinand, Young, Derry, Wright-Phillips, Barton, Bothroyd, Macheda, Mackie.

Wigan: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figeroa, Stam, McCarthy, Gomez, McArthur, Crusat, Rodallega, Moses.
