The two sides sat at opposing ends of the Premier League table meet on Monday night, with rock-bottom Wigan hosting table-topping Manchester City.

The Latics find themselves rooted to the foot of the division after going five games without a win.

They are, however, only two points adrift of safety and could clamber out of the bottom three with derby success against their North West neighbours.

In order to pick up three points, Wigan will need to find the target - and they have struggled in the final third this season.

Roberto Martinez's side have the worst goal return in the top flight, netting just 18 times in 20 fixtures.

The Latics have also struggled to break City down in recent meetings between the two clubs, failing to score in six of their last eight games and the last four in a row.

City will be hoping that run continues on Monday, giving them every chance to re-establish their three-point lead at the top of the table.

The Blues saw arch-rivals Manchester United pull level with them at the summit on Saturday, and they will be desperate to edge back in front.

The omens look good for City, as they have won their last four games against Wigan, but their away form will give Roberto Mancini cause for concern.

City have failed to win any of their last four league games on the road, picking up just two points in the process.

On a more positive note, the Blues have kept four clean sheets in their last five Premier League matches and remain the highest scoring side in the division.
