Midfielder Danny Swanson will return to the Dundee United squad to face Rangers having been treated for a medial ligament strain in December.

Defender Gavin Gunning is fit despite his back injury last Sunday, but Robbie Neilson is suspended so Keith Watson could replace him at right-back.

Rangers centre-backs Dorin Goian and Carlos Bocanegra are both suspended.

Steven Whittaker, Kyle Bartley, Kirk Broadfoot and Sasa Papac remain injured on the sidelines.

Dundee United manager Peter Houston : "I've got great admiration for the guys at Rangers, like McCoist and the players.

"I don't think people realise just exactly what has gone on and how tough it has been.

"We'll never know but to their credit they've done brilliantly throughout it all recently.

"They must take great credit for the way they've handled things.

"Probably the hardest thing is to just sit down and concentrate on their football but that is their release in many ways.

"They're still packed full of good international players who're very capable on their day."

Rangers defender Ross Perry : "It's obviously a blow not to finish first and anything other than that is a setback for Rangers.

"But after our difficulties this season, I think finishing second in the table needs to be our aim.

"We know what the scenario could be next week but that doesn't change our thinking. We just want to win the game this weekend.

"We wouldn't go out and try to win any more or less than normal. Irrespective of that, we just want to get victories both this week and next."
