MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• It's 111 years since these clubs originally locked horns for the first of their 96 league and cup clashes. Birmingham hold a 42 wins to 29 lead, with 25 draws.

• Nathan Redmond scored the only goal four minutes from time in last month's reverse fixture for Birmingham, who are now chasing a fourth successive league victory over Portsmouth and back-to-back doubles, having achieved the feat in the 2009/10 Premier League campaign.

• Portsmouth's last home victory over the Brummies was 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup two years ago.

Portsmouth

• Crisis-ridden and rock bottom Portsmouth have sunk to eight points below the survival line, having failed to win 11 of their last 12 league games, including the most recent nine.

• They did however pick up a point from a second goalless draw in three games at Fratton Park, when fourth-bottom Bristol City visited on Saturday. But Michael Appleton's team have not managed victory in five in front of the home supporters since the 2-0 defeat of Watford on 2 January.

• Pompey have failed to score in six of the last seven, including the most recent three, and have found the net only twice in nine league outings.

Birmingham City

• Birmingham notched only their second victory in nine in all competitions, with Saturday's 3-0 home triumph over Middlesbrough. It leaves them in fourth spot, the highest of three clubs on 59 points, 11 short of the top two, and one ahead of seventh place.

• Chris Hughton is now looking to his side to complete their first back-to-back league wins in 10 outings. They have not recorded successive victories in the Championship since ending January with four in a row.

• When last promoted to the Premier League three years ago, the Brummies had five more points at this same stage.
