MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Everton have won 75 and lost 66 of 170 competitive matches against Sunderland, with 29 drawn.

• The Merseyside club are unbeaten in 17 against Sunderland, having won 11 and drawn four in the Premier League and FA Cup since the Black Cats' 1-0 home win in December 2001. The pair drew 1-1 in the Premier League at the Stadium of Light on Boxing Day.

• This is the 12th time they have been drawn to meet each other in the FA Cup. Everton have progressed on seven occasions, most recently in 2005, and Sunderland four, the last being in 1979. They have never met as late in the competition as the quarter-finals.

Everton

• Everton go into this tie on the back of the 3-0 midweek Merseyside derby defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, their first loss in 10 in all competitions. They are on a five-match winning run at home.

• The five-time winners are on their best FA Cup run since finishing runners-up for the eighth time in their history three years ago. But they have been knocked out at Goodison Park in four of the last five seasons.

• David Moyes's Toffees have been drawn at home for the fourth time out of four in this year's competition. Two goals have proved sufficient to see off each of Tamworth, Fulham and Blackpool in the previous three rounds.

Sunderland

• The 1937 and 1973 winners are appearing in the last eight for the first time since 2004, when they reached the semi-finals. They have made progress on five of the last eight occasions they have qualified for the quarter-finals.

• Victory over Arsenal in the fifth round was only the second time in six attempts the Black Cats had prevailed against top-flight opposition in the FA Cup.

• Under Martin O'Neill, Sunderland have won 11 of 18 league and cup games, including against Liverpool in their most recent outing.
