Hannover coach Mirko Slomka may have a diploma in mathematics but he is hoping not to need it after Thursday night's Europa League clash with Standard Liege.

A goalscoring draw at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne would take Hannover through to the knockout stages with their final match against Vorskla determining whether the Bundesliga side will finish top or second in their group.

A 0-0 draw, on the other hand, would mean only a win against Vorskla would guarantee them a place in the last 32.

Defeat would change very little in that a win on the final matchday would still be enough to see them through, but Slomka does not care about all of the equations and permutations as he sets his sight on victory in Belgium.

"All that we need is one win from our remaining two games,'' he told Kicker magazine.

"Finishing first would give us a potentially easier opponent in the next round.''

Slomka faces a dilemma with his team selection since Didier Ya Konan, who was suspended in the Bundesliga at the weekend, is available.

However, with Jan Schlaudraff ending his goalscoring drought which had endured for over 1000 minutes with a stunning volley, last season's top goalscorer Ya Konan may have to make do with a place on the bench.

Standard's attack picks itself with Mohamed Tchite and Gohi Bi Cyriac on fire at present.

Since coach Jose Riga changed his formation to include both forwards, Tchite has scored in every single game, netting seven in the last five games, including the goal which put Standard on their way to a 3-2 win over Malines at the weekend.

"There is no secret,'' he told La Derniere Heure newspaper. "Before, I did not have any chances because I was not receiving the ball, but now I am getting the chances and I am scoring.

"Against Malines, we proved once again that Cyriac and I get on fantastically together.

"For the opening goal, I just called and he knew exactly where to put the ball. It's like we know where each other is with our eyes closed.''

Riga will be hoping for more of the same on Thursday night since a win would take his side into the last 32 and allow them to take it easy in their last group game against Copenhagen.
