Preview

Carlos Tevez could be included in the Manchester City squad for the first time since September.

Joleon Lescott (groin) is out, Vincent Kompany (calf) is doubtful, but Pablo Zabaleta (hamstring) and Gareth Barry (back) are fit.

Chelsea will be without skipper John Terry who is feeling the effects of playing two games in four days following a return from knee surgery.

But he is expected to be fit for Saturday's game with Tottenham.
MATCH PREVIEW

The results of a League Managers' Association survey published last week revealed that two-thirds of Premier League bosses thought Manchester City would win the title this season.

I suspect they were asked the question before City lost top spot to Manchester United, and that more than two-thirds would now be leaning towards the red side after their mauling of Wolves on Sunday took them four points clear.

This is City's catch-up game - and Roberto Mancini knows better than anyone it's absolutely crucial they reduce the gap to a single point by winning it.

Two games ago he targeted 11 wins from the then 12 matches remaining to make sure United finished a place below his team. Having lost at Swansea, by his own sums they've now got to go 10 out of 10 to the finish.

“This will be the sternest test yet of Di Matteo's strong early claims to be the next permanent Stamford Bridge boss.”

It's Chelsea who are the 100% men at the moment though. With four wins out of four since Roberto Di Matteo took charge, they look a different, revitalised team to the one that Andre Villas-Boas seemed to be struggling to have control over.

Frank Lampard's starting, Didier Drogba is in the mood, and Fernando Torres has finally got on the scoresheet again! This, however, will be the sternest test yet of Di Matteo's strong early claims to be the next permanent Stamford Bridge boss.

City have won all their home league games this season, and it's 19 wins in a row since the end of February last year.

Chelsea have failed to win any of their last four away in the league - losing the last two without scoring. They've also lost on their last two visits to Eastlands.

Last season a single Carlos Tevez goal won it for City and, with the Argentine now out of exile and a 'possible' substitute in Mancini's mind, what price a glorious return to re-ignite the title challenge with (almost) all forgiven by City's fans?

There'll be a big story to come out of this game one way or another. Headlines for Tevez or Torres? I just can't decide.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Chelsea have won 10 of their 14 Premier League visits to Manchester City - only Arsenal have won as many - but have lost their last two.
The Londoners have won the previous two Premier League games between the two - both at Stamford Bridge - and are looking to complete a Premier League double against Robert Mancini's men for the ninth time.

Manchester City

Victory for Manchester City would see them set a Premier League record of 21 consecutive home wins. They would also become only the fourth team in top-flight history to achieve that feat following Liverpool (21) in 1972, Newcastle (21) in 1906-07 and Preston (21) in 1891-92.
Roberto Mancini's side were beaten by Swansea in their last Premier League game, they have not suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats since losing to Arsenal and Wolves in October 2110.
Carlos Tevez has scored in each of his last five appearances against Chelsea, bagging six goals in total.
Roberto Mancini's side have scored in each of their last 26 Premier League home games since a goalless draw with Birmingham in November 2110.

Chelsea

Chelsea have not lost three successive league away games in the same season since December 2102-January 2103.
Only Manchester United (12) have conceded fewer away goals in the Premier League than Chelsea (13) this season.
Frank Lampard is still one short of 150 Premier League goals - he would become the first midfielder to achieve that feat.
Ashley Cole could make his 250th appearance for Chelsea, while Branislav Ivanovic could make his 150th.
