Zakuani has been playing through the pain barrier with a toe problem for a few weeks, while McCann limped off at the weekend with a calf strain.
Reading will monitor the fitness of midfielder Jem Karacan, who was substituted against Barnsley at the weekend following a heavy tackle.
Winger Jimmy Kebe may be rested after only just returning from a knee injury.
MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
• Peterborough have won 15 and Reading 17 of 46 competitive matches against each other over half a century.
• Reading have put nine goals past Posh in two meetings. A third successive victory would complete a first-ever league double over the London Road club.
• Peterborough have avoided defeat in 14 of their last 16 home clashes with the Royals, last being vanquished on home soil in November 2001.
Peterborough United
• 18th-placed Posh have managed just two wins in 13 league games, and on Saturday tumbled to a third defeat in four matches with an odd-goal-in-five reverse, away to Ipswich.
• Darren Ferguson's side have the third leakiest defence in the division, with 60 goals shipped in 36 games, and have managed just three clean sheets.
• They have one of the best disciplinary records in the division with just two red cards and 44 yellow brandished in the direction of their players.
Reading
• Reading notched their ninth win in an unbeaten last 10 with four unanswered goals at Barnsley on Saturday to retain an automatic promotion berth, two points behind Southampton, and three ahead of West Ham with nine to play.
• They have registered 17 wins in 22 league games home and away, and have dropped only two points out of a last possible 18 on their travels, since defeat at Cardiff on 2 January.
• The first goal scored will be their 200th since Brian McDermott took over, originally in a caretaker capacity in December 2009.
